September Luncheon

Join us for our first meeting after the summer break!

Title: It’s not the critics that count -- don’t be afraid to get naked!

From time to time, we all fall under the criticism of others. Who should you listen to? Who should you disregard? Why? How do you deal with criticism? Join us as Brene Brown answers these questions and more! Followed by a discussion on addressing the critiques in our lives.

Can’t make it? You can still participate. Send your tip to LaDonna Greiner at LaDonna.G@21Reasons.Life. We will miss you but no worries -- all members will get a list of all the tips submitted (another great benefit of membership)!

Pondering from the President

Jacqueline Post, President

Vulnerability & Relationship Development

Are you familiar with the work of Brene Brown? At this month’s luncheon, we’ll discuss her work on criticism. Another topic Brene is well-known for speaking on is vulnerability. I was recently inspired to read one of her newest books,Braving the Wilderness. Let me tell you about what inspired me.

I have worked out at the same, female-owned fitness center for several years. The owner is somewhat of a fixture and a beloved instructor. She posted on the fitness center’s public page that her boyfriend had left her unexpectedly. I was surprised to see this post, but also deeply proud of her for sharing. It was one of the bravest things I’ve seen recently.

Her willingness to be vulnerable enabled her several hundred clients to be there for her. She received so much more support because she shared something private. We randomly crossed paths a couple days later and I gave her a hug and asked how she was doing. If there was a day she was down, others understood why and met her with compassion.

This spurred me to read into this topic, purchasing Braving the Wilderness. I’m learning how powerful vulnerability can be. If you have an extra 15 minutes today, watch her TED Talk on the Power of Vulnerability.

My hope is that each of you feels comfortable being vulnerable within our group. Being vulnerable brings us closer and pushes the development of deeper connections. I ensure each of you that AWC is a safe place where you can turn for support, no matter what you’re going through. Allow yourself to share what is going on in your life with others.
