During almost 30 years at the Lawrence (KS) Journal-World, Ann Gardner has seen the newspaper go from an old-fashioned teletype machine and manual typewriters to a fully converged operation that now delivers news not only through the newspaper, but also through the company's cable television station and online news outlets.
She has been the Journal-World's editorial page editor for 19 years after serving in a variety of reporting and editing roles, including a two-year stint as the company's multimedia managing editor during which she helped facilitate the move into the World Company's new converged News Center.
In addition to its technological advancements, the Journal-World in February also received the inaugural "Above and Beyond" award presented by the Kansas Sunshine Coalition for Open Government in recognition of its efforts to pursue government information on behalf of the public.
