Emmeline AguirreEmmeline Aguirre
Emmeline Aguirre teaches Advertising Campaigns, Portfolio, and Copywriting at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. She is also Faculty Co-advisor for the University’s American Advertising Federation National Student Advertising Competition team and Faculty Advisor for Ad Club, Texas State’s student advertising organization. Before joining the faculty at Texas State, Emmeline worked in the industry as a copywriter, graphic designer, and art director for 15 years. She continues to freelance and work on pro bono projects as a Communications Specialist, offering a variety of writing, editing, and design services.


 

Jane Baxter LynnJane Baxter Lynn
Jane Baxter Lynn has spent more than two decades in international public relations, corporate communications, marketing and association management, with an extensive network to match. She has worked in Belgium, France, South Africa and the United States, where she now resides.
Jane’s responsibilities have included management of global, national and regional communications, addressing both external and internal audiences. As principal of JBL Strategies (www.jblstrategies.com), she has gained a solid reputation for providing clients with effective strategic counsel; developing results-oriented solutions, and bringing together diverse parties to achieve common goals.
Jane has been a member of Association for Women in Communications since 2006 and served on the National AWC Board for two years, during which time she launched the organization’s marketing and communications committee. She has served as a Clarion Judge for several years and has been instrumental in developing other program plans for AWC.


Jenny BarnettJenny Barnett
Jenny Barnett is an editorial consultant, freelance editor and writer, and Lecturer at Cornell University, specializing in media writing and editing.  A publishing industry veteran with over 20 years’ experience in top-level positions on national magazines, she was formerly Executive Editor in Chief at Harper’s Bazaar and Executive Editor at Marie Claire in the US and the UK.  She is currently a Contributing Editor for Harper’s Bazaar.


 

Christy BroccardoChristy Broccardo
Christy Broccardo is a graphic designer and marketing specialist at Springfield Clinic, central Illinois’ largest healthcare provider. She is a past president and long-time board member for the Springfield Area AWC chapter. Before venturing into health care, she worked in association communications for 17 years, and spent several years in higher education as a campus web designer and manager; and as a graphic design, publication design, web, and art history instructor.
Christy earned her bachelor’s degree in Art from Illinois State University and her master’s degree in Visual Communications from University of Illinois. A proud mom and dog lover, she owns her own freelance design business (http://christybroccardodavis.crevado.com) and specializes in print design, web design, email marketing, social media and association communications.


 

Jenny EngleJenny Engle
Jenny Engle, an award winning marketing and communications professional and entrepreneur, also is a popular speaker, trainer, and author. A Certified Communications Professional (CCP), she is the owner and principal of jke marketing & communications (www.jkecommunications.com), a Green-Plus Certified boutique firm working with small to medium-sized for- and non-profit organizations.
The Pennsylvania native is a contributing author to The Unstoppable Woman’s Guide to Emotional Wellbeing and The Guide for the Unstoppable Entrepreneur, as well as the PRNEWS Employee Communications Handbook, the PRNEWS Guidebook on CSR and Green Messaging and the 2012 and 2013 Women’s Advantage Calendar. She regularly blogs and writes on communicating professionally, providing outstanding customer service, building employee and customer loyalty, perfecting your writing skills, and strategic planning and positioning. A judge for various international communications competitions, she also is a reviewer/evaluator of professional work portfolios for communications certification.


 

Kandace GallantKandace Gallant
Kandace is senior manager, pursuit management of Deloitte Services LP, a company she has been with for seven years. She assists client service teams in a number of areas including managing pursuit activities, developing differentiators and win themes, writing proposals, and facilitating rehearsals for key meetings and presentations. Her experience includes pursuits involving external audit, internal audit, tax, financial advisory, and forensic services for complex global companies in a broad range of industries.
Prior to joining Deloitte, Kandace wrote proposals and marketing materials for companies specializing in architecture, engineering, and exhibit design. She also worked as a project manager in a software development organization.
Kandace holds a BA in mass communication from Anderson University.


 

Roberta KellyRoberta Kelly
Roberta Kelly holds degrees in journalism and veterinary science and since 1985 has taught journalism at Washington State University. She also freelance edits and has a special interest in science- teaching a seminar in science communication as part of two National Science Foundation grants.
Kelly served twice as president of the Pacific Northwest Association of Journalism educators and twice as journalism program head at WSU. She is the assistant dean of undergraduate studies for the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at WSU and faculty adviser for the WSU Chapter of AWC.
Kelly is an honorary member of The National Society of Student Scholars and the Golden Key National Honor Society and was a WSU 2007 and 2010 Outstanding Mentor.


 

Jayne E. Marsh, APR, CFRE
Jayne E. Marsh is an accredited public relations and fund development professional with more than 30 years of marketing communications, public relations, media, and fundraising experience in the higher education, non-profit, governmental, and cultural arts fields.
She was instrumental in the re-birth of the Lansing Michigan chapter of Women in Communications, Inc. (WICI) chapter in the 1980s, served as professional advisor to the Michigan State University (MSU) student WICI chapter, chaired the Great Lakes Regional WICI Meeting in 1983, and holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from MSU.


 

Pat MeadsPat Meads
Pat Meads has been a member of AWC since 1976 - in the Twin Cities, Kansas City, and now At Large. Pat spent 39 years in Sales Promotion, Advertising, Marketing and Event Planning in Minneapolis and Kansas City. She has owned Promotions On Call, Inc. (Kansas City) since 2001 and is now easing into retirement.


 

Lisa NalewakLisa Nalewak
Lisa Nalewak has over 20 years of experience as a Marketing Communications professional.  She has held senior positions with start-ups and established companies in the publishing, consumer electronics and Internet services industries.  Her expertise in creative, copywriting, branding, integrated marketing strategies and consumer behavior has enabled her to successfully deploy profitable MarComm initiatives for established companies and to position her start-up companies for successful acquisition.  Currently, Lisa is the Creative Director for SavvyDog Design, LLC, an award-winning boutique graphic and web design agency she co-founded in 2002, and is a Marketing Consultant for SavvyPhone, LLC, an award winning mobile web application development company she co-founded in 2010.

Lynn O’ConnellLynn O’Connell
Lynn O’Connell serves as Executive Director of Computer C.O.R.E., a workforce development organization that provides technology and life skills training for low-income Northern Virginians to help them become self-sufficient.
She has more than 20 years of experience with non-profit organizations and fundraising.
Lynn holds a Master’s in Philanthropy from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.


 

Nadine OdoNadine Odo
Nadine Odo is a medical writer/research associate at the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Health Sciences University. She is involved in research from grant proposal development to data collection and manuscript preparation and also has a hand in producing webpages and newsletters. Before moving to Georgia over 15 years ago, she was public relations professional at the Blood Bank of Hawaii.

 

Sally SeppanenSally Seppanen
Sally Seppanen is a leadership coach and consultant with an attentive focus and commitment to client’s goals. Sally’s background as a marketing professional includes strategic planning and managing projects and client relationships. Her experience also includes branding, creative and business writing and delivering customized, interactive team engagement programs. She is the owner of Sepp6 Creative Solutions, guiding clients to sustainable change and greater fulfillment and success (www.sepp6.com.)


 

Linda Strelluf Linda Strelluf
For Linda Strelluf, studying communication is a way of life. In college she received a BA in Speech from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) and earned a Master’s degree in Film and in Literature from Baker University.
Whether working as a company agent for Starlight Theatre, developing promotions for a movie chain, or teaching communication and film strategies, Strelluf is passionate about communication. A professor of Communication at Avila University in Kansas City, Mo, Strelluf served for three years on the Board of Directors for the Association for Women in Communication (AWC), where she was Student Liaison to 36 college chapters across the country.
After judging for five years and winning a Clarion Award in 2010, she was appointed as the Chairman of the Clarion Award’s Committee, and was instrumental in taking the Clarion Awards online. She has also been selected to judge the Stevie Awards, which honor women in business. Additionally, she served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Executive Committee and a member of the Advisory Board for St Joseph Institute for the Deaf–Kansas City.
A member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), she is the faculty advisor for AU/ IABC. During her twelve years at Avila, Strelluf’s students have won a variety of local, regional, national, and international awards for their work in her classes.


 

Gary SwansonGary Swanson
Gary E. Swanson is currently the Mildred S. Hansen Endowed Chair and Distinguished Journalist-in-Residence at the University of Northern Colorado, USA. From 2005-2007 Swanson was a Fulbright scholar to China and lectured at Tsinghua University and the Communication University of China. In summer 2008 he was Commentator for China Central Television International (CCTV-9) and their live coverage of the Beijing Olympic Games. Previously, Swanson was professor and director of television for nine years at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University where he taught mostly graduate broadcast students. He has been an educator for 25 years – 19 years spent teaching at the university level.
Swanson has earned more than 70 awards for broadcast excellence and photojournalism including three national EMMY’s, the duPont Columbia Award, two CINE “Golden Eagles,” 16 TELLY’s, the Monte Carlo International Award, the Hamburg International Media Festival’s Globe Award, the Videographer Award, The Communicator Award, the Ohio State Award, the CINDY Award, the 2011 Communitas Outstanding Professor and Educator award, and many others.


 

Billie RodelyBillie Rodely
Billie Rodely has more than 35 years of broadcast journalism experience. She has reported, written, edited and anchored for radio and television in the Indianapolis, Kansas City and Oklahoma City broadcast markets.
Professional recognition of her work includes induction into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame. She holds two Heartland Regional Emmy Awards, five national Aurora Awards and a national Clarion award in television documentary production, as well as state and regional recognition from the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters, Associated Press, and Society of Professional Journalists in reporting, editing, anchoring, writing and production… even in sports reporting.
Rodely is a member and past-president of the Oklahoma City Gridiron Club and Foundation (which provides scholarships to Oklahoma journalism students), Central Oklahoma Turning Point (health initiative), Freedom of Information Oklahoma, Inc., Society of Professional Journalists, and the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame. Rodely and her husband are elders and active members in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and serve on the church board.
Currently, she is employed by the State of Oklahoma and is executive assistant to Corporation Commissioner Dana Murphy (state-wide elected official). Billie Rodely was born in Southern Illinois, attended elementary and high school in the suburbs of Chicago, and is a graduate of Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind. Rodely plays the role of Hillary Clinton in The Oklahoma City Gridiron Show.


 

Monica Whitworth Monica Whitworth
Monica is responsible for Website design and maintenance and the monthly newsletter of the Springfield, MO chapter. She is employed at the Springfield News-Leader by day and owns her own graphic design business Ameriart. She also teaches design classes at OTC. She is a graduate of Missouri State University, with a degree in Journalism and Masters in Communication. Monica has eight children and raised two foster children. She also belongs to the Blues Society of the Ozarks and is a Christian County Master Gardener.
