Clarion Awards Committee


Committee Description

Established in 2006, the Clarion Awards Committee strives to increase visibility and participation within the competition. The prestigious awards annually recognize excellence in communications fields.

Committee responsibilities

  • Annually review and revise awards categories and entry and juding criteria, as necessary
  • Annually review and revise requirements for judges, as necessary. Recruit judges.
  • Develop and execute PR and marketing plans to maximize visibility and participation.
  • Other possible assignments including: review and critique materials; conduct Internet research;
    offer input and advice; contact other organizations to expand network; write or review releases,
    e-blasts, articles, etc.

Linda Strelluf Linda Strelluf, Chair
Linda Strelluf earned a BA in Speech/Communication from UMKC and a Master's degree in both Film and Literature from Baker University. Currently, Linda is an Assistant Professor of Communication at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. She teaches classes in public relations, film studies, pop culture, mass media, feature and promotional writing.


 

 
Mary Anthony
Mary Anthony is assistant director for university communications at Trinity University where she handles community relations and special events. Anthony has been a member of AWC since 2000 and is a past recipient of the Chapter Star award. In June 2010, she completed serving two terms as president of the AWC San Antonio chapter and is also an active member of the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists and the City of Olmos Park Communications Committee. Anthony has served as a Clarion Awards judge for the past five years and is also a member of the National Tech Committee. She has received Clarion Awards in the Fundraising Event, Online Newsletter and Logo categories. Anthony has a B.A. from Texas State University and a M.S. from Texas A&M University-Kingsville.



 

Jenny EngleJenny Engle
Jenny Engle has more than 25 years experience in marketing management and communications. Since 1988 she has been the owner/principal of
jke marketing and communications, specializing in helping small to mid-size for- and non-profit organizations establish, turn around and/or grow operations through strategic marketing and communications. Jenny also temporarily “loans” herself to organizations and is a popular speaker/trainer on numerous marketing and communications topics. One of PA’s 50 Best Women in Business and a past national president for AWC, she has been a judge for the Clarions and several other international communications competitions for numerous years. She earned an MPA from Penn State University and a BS from Millersville University.

 

 

Joy Rose Joy Rose
Joy Rose has served as a Clarion Awards judge for the past two years. She has been a member of AWC for more than 25 years, and served as president of the Columbus chapter. A career educator, Joy retired in 2004 after 36 years as a teacher and administrator in the Westerville City Schools.


 

 

Deborah Sullivan Deborah Sullivan
Deborah Sullivan is Vice President, Manager, Investment Communications at PNC. A pioneer in the development and use of automation for the creation and delivery of Equity Research, Ms. Sullivan was invited to speak to an international forum on research automation in Paris in 2004 and in New York in 2006. As The Sports Diva, Ms. Sullivan writes an all-sports column at
www.thesportsdiva.com.
